Microwave Chocolate & Peanut Butter Mug Cake

It was a Wednesday night; 2 Broke Girls was on TV… And 2 Broke Girls always gives me cravings for cupcakes. Promptly, Nadia jumped up and exclaimed, “Let’s make a mug cake!” She had seen a mug cake recipe on Budget Bytes, so we decided to spontaneously try it out. Cake craving satisfied. Yes.

We used smooth peanut butter for this particular mug cake, but I’d imagine crunchy peanut butter would be even better. It’s a matter of personal preference of course (I’m definitely a crunchy peanut butter kinda gal).

The ingredients below are suitable for a humongoid mug we used, so if you’re more inclined to drink out of a small (aka. normal) cup, then halve all the ingredients. You can obviously alter the recipe to your taste – I would actually recommend adding more sugar. With the saltiness from the peanut butter, a sweeter chocolate cake will add more depth of flavour.

Ingredients:
4 tbsp self-raising flour
2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
4 tsp sugar
2 tbsp vegetable oil
4 tbsp milk
2 tbsp peanut butter

Method:
1. Get your favourite mug; mix together the dry ingredients in it.
2. Add the oil and milk, stir well!
3. Push dollops of peanut butter into the batter.
4. Microwave for around 2 minutes.
5. EAT!

We were super-excited after gobbling up the mug cake, and were inspired to try new flavours. We now have an extensive list of mug cake ideas that we’ll be experimenting with soon! Watch this space.
